GeStalt

Gestalt Psychology is that the whole is greater than the sum of it's parts. In design I feel like this means to look at the big picture rather than just a part of it, to get the idea of what it means and fully understand it.

    It also means that we don't just look at parts of an image fixate on their meaning. We can see all of the parts of an image, even if they seem unrelated at first, as they work together to reveal a larger image or impression.
